Influence of Plastic Deformation on the Hydrogen Embrittlement Susceptibility of Dual Phase Steels

چکیده

The susceptibility of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) to hydrogen embrittlement (HE) limits the broad utilization these materials for body-in-white (BIW) components. considerable decrease both ductility and toughness due local accumulation inside formed components may cause unpredictable time-delayed failure. In particular deep-drawn punched AHSS are prone absorption. This work investigates influence plastic deformation on absorption dual phase (DP) steels. For that purpose, tensile samples were machined out three commercial 1.2 mm-thick DP sheets with ultimate strengths 626 MPa, 826 MPa 1096 MPa. Samples uniaxially pre-strained 2 %, 5 10 15 % 20 %. After pre-straining electrochemically charged hydrogen, actual contents determined using a thermal desorption analyser (TDA). Before after charging, hardness was measured uniaxial quasi-static properties determined. order quantify HE, slow strain rate tests (SSRT) performed. results correlated fraction martensite each

Prevention of Hydrogen Embrittlement in Steels

The essential facts about the nature of the hydrogen embrittlement of steels have now been known for 140 years. It is diffusible hydrogen that is harmful to the toughness of iron. It follows, therefore, that the harmful influence of diffusible hydrogen can be mitigated by preventing its entry into steel or by rendering it immobile once it penetrates the material. This review deals with the meth...

Hydrogen embrittlement of ferritic steels: Observations on deformation microstructure, nanoscale dimples and failure by nanovoiding

While hydrogen embrittlement of ferritic steels has been a subject of significant research, one of the major challenges in tackling hydrogen embrittlement is that the mechanism of embrittlement is not fully resolved. This paper reports new observations and interpretation of fracture surface features and deformation microstructures underneath the fracture surface, providing a mechanistic view of...

High Temperature Behavior of Dual Phase Steels

Dual phase steels with different martensite volume fraction and morphology were tensile tested at a temperature range of 25 to 5500C. Stress-strain curves of all steels showed serration flow at temperatures of 250 and 3500C, and smooth flow at the other temperatures. Both yield and ultimate tensile strengths increased with increasing testing temperature up to about 450<sup...

The Effect of Ferrite Grain Size on the Fatigue Behavior of Ferrite-martensite Dual-phase Steels

The effect of ferrite grain size on the fatigue and tensile properties of dual phase steels with a 0.25 volume fraction of martensite (Vm) under different heat treatments was investigated. The heat treatments were homogenized at 1200 oC along with several subsequent normalizations at 910 oC, resulting in different microstructures and mechanical properties. After heat treatment, the obtained ste...
